Celebrating centuries of blacksmithing skill, this selection of European and American tools complements the contemporary work in the Woodson's concurrent show, IRON. Before the industrial revolution, hand-forged iron tools were designed and made by blacksmiths the world over. These artisans were respected for their skill in manipulating iron, and later steel, into everyday objects that helped shape our existence. A few weeks ago I visited the Philadelphia showroom and studio of Michelle Lipson, a furniture maker who has been successfully working on her own for 10 years.
