In 1979, Christo and Jeanne-Claude proposed their project, The Gates, to New York City. It took the artists 26 years before they could install seven thousand gates hung with saffron-colored panels in Central Park.
Albert Maysles and his brother David began filming the Gates in 1979, attending community board hearings and interviewing the artists, their supporters, and their detractors. Christo and Jeanne-Claude persevered, and in 2005 they succeeded in installing The Gates. The Maysles persevered too, and their film was finally aired in 2007. ...
