Five Questions With Pati Hibbard
BY Dulcey Heller

Pati Hibbard, visual resources intern at the American Craft Council Library, with Anthology: Living with Substance and Style.

Today's interview is with Pati Hibbard, visual resources intern at the ACC library.

What is your favorite/most-read craft book in your personal collection?
What?! I don't have any craft books in my personal collection (a truly sad discovery)! That's why I must frequently visit the American Craft Council's library! So when I'm here I check out (in the following order) the newest periodicals, the exhibition, most titles that fall in Library of Congress subclass NK (decorative arts, applied arts, decoration and ornament), and the resource section.

What book or magazine would you like to sneak out of the ACC Library?
Easy: the magazine Anthology. Why? Lately, I've noticed my already short attention span shrinking (I blame the Internet) and thusly [sic] I've been strongly drawn to periodicals with lots of pretty pictures and this is exactly with what Anthology provides me, pretty pictures, really, really, pretty pictures.

What book(s) are you currently reading? Any kind of book is fine!
I am reading My Mother She Killed Me, My Father He Ate Me: 40 New Fairy Tales. It's a collection of short stories (another example of my ADD reading habits) and Design Elements: A Graphic Style Manual as to become a well-rounded individual.

What hooked you on craft? What's the first craft you remember seriously catching your eye?
Craft: It's all about dichotomies (and so am I)! The resulting object is often times functional, handmade and as such, supply is limited making it instantly valuable, even cherished. In this mass produced world we live in, it's refreshing to have something both precious and utilitarian all wrapped up in one convenient little package: a chair, a button, a basket, a fork, a dress or perhaps a cabinet. If the item had too much preciousness, it would belong in a museum, where the object's intended use is no longer it's main function. Modern craft produces such dichotomies for our enjoyment.

If you could master a new craft, what would it be?
An absolutely new craft? Furniture making. Definitely.
